Stress, a toxic diet, and food sensitivities caused my perioral dermatitis. Adding antibiotics to the mix was only going to throw my system more out of balance. Not to mention, I’d read enough stories of other women who had tried oral antibiotics to know they didn’t work in the long run.
Many of the foods that triggered my perioral dermatitis were healthy everyday foods and beverages. They weren’t spicy or greasy.
While harsh topical products sometimes trigger perioral dermatitis, ultimately internal issues cause chronic perioral dermatitis. The kind that won’t go away no matter what you apply to it.
I tried almost every topical lotion, potion, and concoction to get rid of my POD and the only thing that worked was changing my diet.
I saw improvements within a week and after a month it was quickly healing. It only took a few months to completely heal and didn’t flare up again. That being said, there are still a few triggering foods that cause a bump to appear IF I eat them.
Curing perioral dermatitis was a huge relief. Life went back to normal. As my body healed, I was slowly able to add more and more triggering foods back into my diet.
Does Sun Make PD Worse?
The sun can cause sun poisoning, sun rash, or be a trigger for heat rash or prickly heat. And while perioral dermatitis is an inflammation response, it isn’t caused by the sun.
In fact, according to the World Health Organization, sunlight can help treat several skin conditions like eczema, psoriasis, jaundice, and acne.
Moderate sun exposure is associated with all kinds of health benefits. In addition, it only takes about 15 minutes to reap the full benefits of sunlight.
On the other hand, too much exposure to ultraviolet (UV) sun rays can damage skin cells. That’s why using the right sunscreen on your face during perioral dermatitis is so important.
It’s also important to note, that some medicines prescribed for perioral dermatitis make your skin extra sensitive to the sun.
Anti-aging and Skin Cancer Prevention Tips
Although sunscreen use has gone up in recent years, some areas of the face have not seen a decrease in melanoma diagnosis. These few tips can make your sunscreen bulletproof.
